SKYJO is a fast, addictive and easy-to-learn family card game where the goal is simple: finish with the lowest score.
But getting a low score isn't quite as easy as it sounds.
Each player has a grid of face-down cards in front of them, and throughout the game you'll reveal, swap and replace cards in an attempt to reduce the total value of your grid. Low numbers are good, negative numbers are even better—and those tempting high-value cards can quickly ruin your score.
The catch is that you don't know what all your face-down cards are.
Every turn gives you a choice. Take a card from the discard pile and swap it into your grid, or draw a new card and decide whether to use it or discard it and reveal one of your hidden cards. You're constantly weighing up what you know, what you don't know and what your opponents might be trying to do.
And there's an important timing decision too.
As soon as one player reveals all of their cards, the round ends. That means you need to keep an eye on everyone else's grids. You might have a fantastic low score—but if you finish too early and someone else has an even lower total, you can end up doubling your points for the round.
With 2–8 players, simple rules and games that take around 30 minutes, SKYJO is an excellent choice for family game nights, holidays, parties, evenings with friends or anyone looking for a quick game that can be enjoyed by both children and adults.
It's easy enough to teach in a couple of minutes, but the combination of luck, memory, probability and tactical decisions makes it surprisingly addictive.

How to Play
The aim of SKYJO is to collect as few points as possible.
At the start of the game, each player creates a grid of 12 face-down cards, arranged in four columns and three rows. You then reveal two of your cards so that you have some information about your starting position.
On your turn, you can either take the top card from the discard pile or draw a new card from the deck.
If you take the top discard card, you must swap it with one of the cards in your grid.
If you draw from the deck, you have a choice. You can swap the new card into your grid, replacing one of your existing cards, or discard it and reveal one of your face-down cards.
That decision is where much of SKYJO's tension comes from.
You might draw a 12 and immediately want to get rid of it. But which hidden card should you replace? Do you know what's underneath? Is it possible you've already got a low card there?
You also need to pay attention to your opponents.
If you can create a complete column of three cards with the same number, those cards can be removed from your grid, taking their points out of your final score.
This means a card that looks useful on its own might become much more valuable if you can use it to complete a set.
Eventually, one player will reveal all of their cards. This triggers the end of the round, after which everyone totals the cards remaining in their grid.
The scores are added to each player's running total, and the game continues over multiple rounds.
The overall objective is to finish with the lowest total score. Once a player reaches 100 points or more, the game ends and the player with the fewest points wins.
This creates an interesting balance between speed and caution.
Do you rush to reveal your remaining cards, or take a few more turns to try to improve your score?
Do you keep a card because it's low, or replace it because you suspect there's something even better underneath?
And how much information can you remember about the cards you've already seen?
Those decisions are what make SKYJO so easy to learn but surprisingly difficult to stop playing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SKYJO?
SKYJO is a fast and accessible card game where players try to collect the lowest possible score. Players reveal, replace and collect cards over several rounds while trying to improve the 12-card grid in front of them.
How many people can play SKYJO?
The standard SKYJO game supports 2–8 players, making it suitable for couples, families and larger groups.
How long does SKYJO take to play?
A typical game takes approximately 30 minutes, although the exact playing time depends on the number of players and how quickly the group plays.
What age is SKYJO suitable for?
SKYJO is recommended for ages 8 and over.
How do you win SKYJO?
The aim is to have the lowest total score. Players score the cards remaining in their grids at the end of each round. When a player's running score reaches 100 or more, the game ends and the player with the lowest overall score wins.
Is SKYJO easy to learn?
Yes. The basic rules are very straightforward: draw or take a card, replace cards in your grid and try to reduce your score. The strategic possibilities become more interesting as you learn when to reveal cards, when to swap and when to end a round.
Is SKYJO a family game?
Absolutely. SKYJO is particularly well suited to families because it combines simple rules with enough decision-making to keep both children and adults interested.
Is SKYJO a strategy game?
SKYJO combines luck, memory, probability and tactical decision-making. You can't control which card you draw, but you can make decisions about which cards to keep, which to replace and when to finish a round.
Is SKYJO like UNO?
Both are accessible card games that work well with families and groups, but the gameplay is quite different. SKYJO focuses on reducing the score in your personal card grid rather than playing cards from your hand according to matching colours or numbers.
Is SKYJO good for large groups?
Yes. With support for up to 8 players, SKYJO is a particularly useful choice for family gatherings, holidays and larger groups.
Can you play SKYJO with 2 players?
Yes. The standard game supports 2 players, although the experience changes depending on the number of people playing.
What is the best number of players for SKYJO?
SKYJO works at all player counts from 2–8. With more players, the game has a more social, group-game feel; with two players, there is more focus on your own decisions and the information available to you.
What numbers are in SKYJO?
The cards range from -2 through to 12. Lower numbers are generally better because the objective is to minimise your score.
What happens when you get three matching cards in SKYJO?
If you collect three cards with the same number in a complete row or column, those cards can be removed, reducing your score. This gives players another way to turn an otherwise average set of cards into a useful scoring opportunity.
Is SKYJO good for holidays?
Yes. It's compact, quick to set up and easy to teach, making it an excellent holiday card game for taking away with you.
