Qwirkle UK Edition – Award-Winning Tile-Laying Strategy Game

Qwirkle UK Edition by MindWare is a deceptively simple tile-laying game where matching colours and shapes is just the beginning. Build lines, plan your moves, complete six-tile Qwirkles and score points in this brilliantly accessible family strategy game.

With 2–4 players aged 6+ and games taking around 45 minutes, Qwirkle is easy enough for younger players to learn while offering plenty of tactical depth for adults. It has no complicated board or lengthy rulebook – just colourful wooden tiles and clever decisions.

What Is Qwirkle?

Qwirkle is an abstract tile-laying and pattern-building game built around six colours and six different shapes.

There are 108 wooden tiles, with players creating lines where every tile shares either a colour or a shape. The catch is that you cannot duplicate the exact same colour-and-shape combination within a line.

It sounds simple, but choosing where to play your tiles – and when to hold onto valuable combinations – is where the strategy really comes in.

How to Play

Each player begins with six tiles. On your turn, play one or more tiles from your hand to extend the shared layout.

Every tile played in a line must share either the same colour or the same shape, while duplicate combinations are not allowed. You score points for the tiles in the lines you create or extend, then refill your hand back to six tiles where possible.

Complete a line containing all six colours or all six shapes and you've made a Qwirkle, earning a valuable six-point bonus.

The game ends when the bag is empty and a player uses their final tile. The player with the highest score wins.
