How to Play

The objective in Cabanga! is to get rid of all the cards in your hand while collecting as few penalty points as possible.

At the beginning of the game, four coloured rows are created in the centre of the table, with starting cards establishing the numerical ranges for each colour. Players receive a hand of cards and take turns playing them into the appropriate coloured row.

On your turn, choose a card from your hand and place it into the matching colour row. You have a choice of where to play it within that row, allowing you to influence the numerical gaps that appear.

And those gaps are important.

The larger the gap between two cards in a row, the more opportunity your opponents have to interfere. If another player holds a card with a number that falls between the two cards, they can shout "Cabanga!" and throw their card into the discard pile.

The player whose turn it is then has to draw the same number of cards from the penalty pile.

So while getting rid of cards is your main objective, you need to think carefully about how you get rid of them.

Playing a card that leaves a tiny gap might be safe, but it could also leave you with fewer options later. A large gap may allow you to play a difficult card, but it also gives your opponents a much better opportunity to send cards your way.

Once a player gets rid of all their cards, the round ends and everyone scores the cards remaining in their hand. The game continues until a player reaches 18 or more penalty points, with the player who has accumulated the fewest points declared the winner.

The result is a wonderfully tense card game where you are constantly watching what everyone else is doing. A seemingly harmless move can suddenly turn into a disaster when another player spots the perfect opportunity to shout "Cabanga!"
