About 6 Nimmt! Baron Oxx

6 Nimmt! Baron Oxx is a fast, mischievous card game for 2–10 players that takes the familiar ideas of the classic 6 Nimmt! and gives them a colourful new twist.

The basic challenge remains wonderfully simple: play your cards carefully, avoid taking unwanted rows and try to finish the game with as few penalty points as possible. But Baron Oxx adds a new layer of chaos. Instead of simply looking at the numbers on the cards, players must also pay attention to the coloured oxen shown on them.

When cards are played, they have to be added to a row where the colour of an ox matches an ox on the previous card. That creates new tactical possibilities—but also plenty of opportunities for things to go horribly wrong. If a row reaches six cards, or contains six or more oxen of the same colour, someone is going to have to collect it.

And that's where the fun begins.

The result is a clever, highly interactive family card game that combines simultaneous card selection, tactical decisions, luck and a healthy dose of "oh no!" moments. It's easy to learn, quick to play and works brilliantly with both small groups and large gatherings.

If you already love 6 Nimmt!, Baron Oxx offers a fresh reason to return to the table. If you've never played the series before, it provides an accessible introduction to one of modern card gaming's most entertaining formulas.

How to Play

At the beginning of the game, five cards are placed in the centre of the table to create the starting rows. Each player receives a personal deck of cards and begins with four cards in their hand.

Each round, everyone secretly chooses one card from their hand. Once all players have chosen, the cards are revealed together.

The player with the lowest-numbered card goes first, followed by the other players in numerical order.

Here's where Baron Oxx differs from traditional 6 Nimmt!.

Rather than simply placing a card according to its numerical value, players look for a row whose final card contains an ox of a matching colour. If more than one row qualifies, the player gets to choose which one to use.

If there isn't a suitable matching row, the player has to take a row instead.

There's another important danger to watch out for. A row is collected when it reaches six cards, just as in the original game—but Baron Oxx also introduces a colour-based trigger. If a row contains six or more oxen of the same colour, the player who played the triggering card must collect the row.

Collected cards mean penalty points, so the aim is to avoid taking them wherever possible.

The result is a game where every card you play can change the possibilities for everyone else. You might think you've found a safe place for your card, only to discover that another player's card has completely changed the situation.

This combination of simultaneous decisions, changing rows and colourful oxen makes Baron Oxx feel familiar to 6 Nimmt! fans while offering enough new twists to make it its own game.

And, of course, there's always the possibility that Baron Oxx himself will get involved and help you out of trouble—although his assistance can come at a hefty price in penalty points.

Do I need to own the original 6 Nimmt!?

No. Baron Oxx is a standalone game and doesn't require the original 6 Nimmt! to play.

How many people can play 6 Nimmt! Baron Oxx?

The game supports 2–10 players, making it particularly useful for larger groups and parties.

How long does Baron Oxx take to play?

How is Baron Oxx different from 6 Nimmt!?
